Today our family started decorating for Christmas. We have a ridiculously large Christmas wreath (from the Boy Scouts’ sale) on the front door. A lady at church gave us free dibs on any of her unwanted Christmas decorations (she’s downsizing). Toby set up our “faux tree” and the kids decorated it with all their favorite ornaments. Our collection of nativity sets are all over and we started playing an iTunes shuffle of Christmas music.
But even with all this excitement, I feel a bit apprehensive about Christmas this year. I have no idea why. Maybe it’s because I am in a new place. Maybe it’s because I haven’t lived in the great north since the 90’s and I am very afraid of driving in the snow (quite possibly tomorrow!). Maybe it’s because I have no idea how to budget for this Christmas. I don’t know.
Whatever the reason, I know the best way to “redeem” Christmas (when you feel like it is getting out of control) is to get into the Bible as soon as possible. So I am doing just that. For the next four weeks I want to remind myself of why Christmas is so important. If you want to join me on my quest redeeming Christmas, click on Cupoverflowing and together we can dig into the Bible to remember just how important Christmas is.
