God will not fail.

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you. Deuteronomy 31:8 As many of you have been following over the last few months, Toby’s mother continues to battle cancer and brokenness throughout her body. She has been at our local hospital (here near the seminary) for seven weeks and is currently in the cardiac ICU. Singing You Never Fails (by Hillsong) in church last Sunday, the Spirit reminded me of one powerful truth: God will not fail. God will not fail Toby’s mother, even though her health is declining. He will not fail my father-in-law, even though he has been away from home for two months, his life is on hold, and his wife hurts. God will not fail Toby or our family, even though things around us are so uncertain. He will not fail our city, even though riots and anger and hurt surround us. And God will not fail you, even when darkness closes in, pain grips, or anxious thoughts consume. God will not fail. I think it’s hard for us to grasp and believe this tremendous promise, because we are inundated with failure. How can God possibly be victorious when we see failure everywhere? Knowing these thoughts and fully understanding the consequences of humanity’s failures, Jesus spoke extensively to his disciples. He said, “You have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you” (John 16:22). Jesus continued, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (16:33). He then went on to be betrayed, arrested, tried, executed, and buried. Then in the midst of seemingly complete failure, Christ rose from the grave, powerfully conquering sin, the devil, and our ultimate enemy, death. Love-Never-FailsGod will not fail because he has never failed us. Our faith and our hope lie in His promises, those fulfilled and those yet to be fulfilled. We look forward to Christ’s second coming, when these earthly failures that so easily entangle, are once and for all ended. And on that day, we will forever bask in God’s ultimate and victorious glory, never to experience failure again. Come Lord Jesus! The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
