Two blog posts ago, I mentioned one of my favorite books from my dad: The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, by AVI. Today, I happened to be packing away this and that and I found my copy of the book. Inside the front cover is AVI’s autograph with a personal note. It says: “For Rachel and Julia [my sister], who believe – as I do – in the ending – which is really a beginning! AVI 3-12-92”
To clarify, the book has a bit of a surprise ending. Years ago movie producers wanted the rights to make the book into a movie, but change the ending. AVI refused.
That’s how I feel about all this packing and cleaning and saying good-bye. It is like “the ending” that movie producers don’t want. But we are sticking with it and trying to remind ourselves that although we are coming to an end, it is also a beginning of something new and exciting.
