The End…

Two blog posts ago, I mentioned one of my favorite books from my dad: The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, by AVI. Today, I happened to be packing away this and that and I found my copy of the book. Inside the front cover is AVI’s autograph with a personal note. It says: “For Rachel and Julia [my sister], who believe – as I do – in the ending – which is really a beginning! AVI 3-12-92”

To clarify, the book has a bit of a surprise ending. Years ago movie producers wanted the rights to make the book into a movie, but change the ending. AVI refused.

That’s how I feel about all this packing and cleaning and saying good-bye. It is like “the ending” that movie producers don’t want. But we are sticking with it and trying to remind ourselves that although we are coming to an end, it is also a beginning of something new and exciting.

It’s so cool that you found your copy of the book exactly 20 years after I had it autographed for you and Julia! Maybe some day it’ll be made into a movie with the correct ending intact – which is, of course, a new beginning for Charlotte Doyle. Hopefully, you won’t get seasick on your ‘voyage’ into your new beginnings!

  2. I’m so glad you didn’t actually give away the ending before I read it… 🙂
